Inside: This toddler Easter egg painting activity can be modified depending on what materials you have on hand, and comes with a free printable!

I love to use materials that we already have on hand.

It justifies my love for saving odd things, after all! Art using recycled items is the best!

Those fabric scraps? Check!

Random pom poms that need to be used? Got it!

And what about all that paper leftover from my scrapbooking days? That supply will never, ever run out!

And so, I walked around our storage room and dug through my personal stash and found some different colors and textures to add to the project.

Along with stickers.

Because we love stickers in Ms. Sheryl’s class!

I added glitter, too, but I know I need to say that is optional because some of you get pretty upset when I mention that word. Ha!

This Easter egg activity comes with a free printable egg so make sure to scroll down to find it!

Easter Egg Painting Supplies

I will list what I offered my toddlers when creating these paper eggs, but it’s super flexible.

Like I said earlier, use what you have!

  • Paper egg (scroll down for free printable)
  • Tempera paint
  • White School Glue
  • Paintbrushes
  • Tissue paper squares
  • Tissue paper circles
  • Paper scraps
  • Glitter (see note below)

I also gave them oil pastels at the very last minute. I’m good at those last minute ideas, I tell you!

A Word About Glitter

I really don’t use much glitter anymore, and using it this time was a spur of the moment idea (while the children were already working on their eggs!).

What I usually use when I want some sparkle is glitter glue. If we do this again – and I am sure we will – I will use the glitter glue instead.

Preparation

Pour paint into paint containers and add a few dollops of glue. (These are what I used.)

Place collage pieces in trays.

Make enough copies of the egg printable so that each child has one. I suggest using cardstock paper as it’s more sturdy.

I cut out our eggs.

Set Up

I like to use trays at each spot.

Place glue/paint containers at each spot along with paintbrushes.

Place trays of collage materials in the middle of the table.

Invitation to Create

Give each child an egg and explain that they are going to brush the glue/paint mixture onto their eggs, using whatever colors they want.
