Inside: This toddler friendship activity is easy and fun to make and is a simple reminder that we are all friends in our classroom.

We kick off each of our school years with a friendship activity that we also revisit around Valentine’s Day.

Working on friendships in the classroom is an important part of our year-round kindness theme.

I came up with a super simple toddler friendship activity that involves watercolors, which my 2 year olds always enjoy.

A free printable is provided towards the bottom of this post, too!

What we used:

  • Friendship printable (scroll down to find link)
  • Watercolors
  • Hole punch
  • Brads

Before we started this toddler friendship activity, we read some simple friendship books:

I then invited the children to watercolor the people figures.

Our toddlers always love working with watercolors.

Well, our preschoolers do, too.

There is something soothing about dipping the brush into the oval and then applying the liquid paint onto the paper.

They happily painted for quite awhile, chatting away while doing so.

(We have a very verbal group this year!)

I had the children work in small groups at our Simplay3 Activity Table.

I love sitting with them, joining in on their conversations.

When they were finished painting, I placed the papers on our drying rack.

Assembling the friendship banner:

I cut each person out and punched a hole in each hand.

I pushed a brad through each hole and secured the people figures together.

I then cut out the other pieces of the friendship printable.

I wrote the children’s names on the small labels and stuck them onto the fronts of each person using a glue stick.

I punched a hole on either side of the friendship sign and attached it right in the center of the banner.

I then attached it to our hallway window to greet our families.

I just love how it turned out, and it’s a wonderful way to display how we are all friends!
