Inside: These Valentine’s Day heart suncatchers are easy to make and add beautiful color to any window!

If you’ve been following Teaching 2 and 3 Year Olds, you might have noticed how much I love suncatchers!

Perhaps it’s because we don’t have a lot of color here in the winter, but I also just love how they look.

Plus, they are an easy way to work on fine motor skills, and I am always good with that!

For these particular suncatchers there the only prep work was cutting the Contact (sticky) paper, making it one of our easier suncatcher crafts to date.

Let me show you!

Valentine’s Day Heart Suncatchers

This activity was created after I found paper heart frames and heart confetti on Amazon. I knew they would be perfect for a Valentine’s Day suncatcher and I was right.

What we used:

  • Paper heart frames
  • Paper heart confetti
  • Contact paper

Preparation:

Cut a piece of Contact paper for each heart so that it completely covers the center.

Press the Contact paper on each heart.

I save the paper backings so that I can put them back on (to protect the suncatcher) while they are transported home.

Setting cup this activity:

Place the heart sticky side up on a tray along with the heart confetti.

Invite your children to press the heart confetti on the sticky Contact paper.

If this is their first time using Contact paper, they will want to first explore the sticky sensation with their fingers. They also might try to remove the heart confetti after they have pressed them on the Contact paper. All part of the exploration!

Place them in the Window.

Once the suncatchers are finished, press the hearts so that the sticky side is against the glass of the window.

I love how colorful they are!

When you send the suncatchers home, place the paper backing on the sticky side of the suncatcher for protection (so other items don’t stick to it).
