Inside: Birthdays are the highlight of our toddler and preschool classroom day, so they love this fun playdough activity!
Have you noticed how excited preschoolers get when they hear the word “birthday”? They just light up!
Many years ago, probably when I first started teaching, I added some candles to our playdough table.
I never imagined how loved this activity would be. Playdough birthday fun!
Every single time we put candles at our playdough table, even with our toddlers, it’s a huge hit!
The next time you are grocery shopping, pick up some candles. Place them on the table with playdough. And watch.
How to Put Together a Fun Playdough Activity to Celebrate Birthdays
What we used:
Homemade play dough (you can find our recipe in this post)
Assorted birthday candles
Plastic plates and other fun accessories
Mention the word “birthday” to a 3 year old and you will see such excitement! Birthdays are a huge highlight with this age group.
In fact, whenever we mention the number 3, at least one child will excitedly call out: “I’m 3!”
This is why our birthday bulletin board is so special to our students.
Every time I passed this birthday playodough table, I could hear counting going on as they poked candles into play dough cupcakes.
I was also offered to “taste” these cupcakes.
From several of the preschoolers. Such love!
Here are more birthday-themed activities to try:
- Balloons and birthdays go hand-in-hand, so why not paint with them?
- Color rice different colors, add candles, and have fun with a birthday sensory bin!
- It will smell like a real birthday cake with this birthday cloud dough.
