This easy toddler shapes activity, using paper tubes, is a simple way to introduce toddlers to paint. In fact, this is one of the first art activities we do with our toddler class each September. The paper tube fits easily in their small hands and it adds some distance between the paint and the hands, important for some toddlers who are not yet used to the feeling of paint. So, gather a paper tube, some paint, and watch your toddler’s first art experience come to life!

Easy Toddler Shapes Activity Using Paper Tubes

Materials needed for this easy toddler shapes activity:

• paper tubes (if you are using long tubes, cut them smaller)
• tempera paint
• your choice of paper

Setting it up this easy toddler shapes activity:

• Pour tempera paint into trays and add paper tubes.
• Place paper beside the trays.
• Invite the toddlers to press the tube into the paint and then onto the paper.

And yes, some children might want to use them as telescopes. Love their imaginations!
