Art Activity
Invite your children to color each letter ornament with watercolors, markers, or dot markers.
These could be then hung in alphabetical order on the wall.
Ornament
These also make nice personalized ornaments that the children can make for their Christmas trees.
For extra durability, we suggest laminating them.
Gift Tags
Each year our toddlers and preschoolers make handmade gifts for their families.
They are carefully wrapped in gift bags that the children have also made. (Check our our jingle bell painted bags and our JOY bags.)
I give each child a paper ornament with the first letter of their first name to be used as a gift tag.
We’ve used watercolors and dot markers to add color to our gift tags before they are laminated and tied to the bag with ribbon.
Letter Hunt
Go on a letter hunt! Hide each ornament and invite your children to go on a hunt. As they find each letter, ask them what it is.
To make it more personal, have the children hunt specifically for the ornament that has the first letter in their name. (Make sure you make enough copies so that if there are multiple children with the same letter, you hide enough of that letter so they each find one.
This activity allows children to use their large motor skills while inside. (Or, take this activity outdoors!)
Fine Motor Sensory Bin
Cut out each ornament, laminate, and place in a bin with dyed rice. Provide tweezers and ask your preschoolers to remove each alphabet ornament, placing them in a separate container. As they pick out each ornament, ask them what letter it is. This is a fun way to work on fine motor skills during your Christmas theme!
