Inside: Grab your parachute for a fun preschool color activity with Legos. Super easy to set up anywhere and a great way to build color recognition skills!

During our preschool Lego camp, I wanted some sort of color game using Legos. We play lots of parachute activities and I realized I could come up with a color sorting game using our small parachute. What was even more fun was that I turned it into a hide and seek adventure, too!

Games such as this one are a great way to build confidence and social skills. Young children are encouraged to work together as they play. This also builds language skills as they communicate with each other, as well as cognitive skills as they figure out where the pieces go.

What you will need:

  • Parachute
  • Lego Duplos in colors that match your parachute

Setting up:

Place the parachute on a table or the floor. Hide the Lego Duplo bricks around the room. A grown up can do this, or you can have some of the children help.

Playing the game:

Invite the children to find the hidden Duplo bricks. As they find them, they place them on the matching color on the parachute. Keep going until all the bricks are found.

Extensions:

  • Count how many bricks are on each color and create a simple graph to show if one color has more than the others.
  • Find other items around the room, sort and place them on the matching colors on the parachute.
