Inside: This winter mitten craft is all about the process of using paint and marbles. Comes with a free mitten printable, too!
Our toddlers and preschoolers love painting in a bag.
Because of this, we’ve done different versions. You might recall our marble painting in freezer bags.
And recently we had fun making muddy pigs in bags.
This mitten art activity is just as fun and a perfect addition to your snow and ice theme!
Marble Painted Winter Mitten Craft
What we used:
- Blue washable tempera paint
- Bug tongs
- Marbles
- Gallon-size plastic resealable bags
- Mitten printable (scroll down to bottom of post for free link)
Getting started:
Pour some paint into a dish and add some marbles. After downloading the free printable mitten, cut it out and place it inside the plastic bag.
The activity:
Invite your child to transfer the marbles from the paint into the bag.
Once all the marbles have been added, seal the bag and start pressing on top of the bag, moving the marbles around.
You can even shake the bag a bit to get the marbles moving. (Just make sure it’s sealed tight!)
This activity is not only develops fine motor skills, but it’s also a fun sensory idea.
Children who have an aversion to getting paint on their hands will feel more comfortable having the ingredients inside the closed bag.
Sensory seeking children will enjoy pressing on the smooth plastic and moving the marbles around.
When finished:
Remove marbles and paper mitten from bag. That’s it! Easy peasy and fun.

How frequently do you change out the play dough? I’m wondering about keeping it sanitary.
Sheryl Cooper
We change out our playdough approximately every 2 weeks, but more frequently if we feel the need (especially if illnesses are going around). We store it in an airtight container, and it’s only out on the table for about an hour each morning.
