Giving preschoolers their own little books is a great way to work on early literacy skills.
These personal books are a fun extension to the popular book Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See.
After the book is read, preschoolers can take their books to the writing center (if at school) or to the kitchen table (if at home) and color each animal.

Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See Printable Book
First, make one copy of the printable book for each child.
Follow the horizontal line in the middle of each page with scissors or a paper cutter and put the animals in the same order as in the book:
- brown bear
- red bird
- yellow duck
- blue horse
- green frog
- purple cat
- white dog
- black sheep
- goldfish
After stacking the pages in the above order, staple the left side so that they are now books.
Give your preschooler the booklet along with colored writing tools that match the animals.
Have a copy of Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See at the same table.
Open the book and notice the bear.
Ask your preschooler what color it is.
Then, invite your preschooler to find the matching colored writing tool to color the animal in their booklet.
Ways to Extend this Activity
Color Hunt
After your preschooler colors the animals, open the book to a random page and invite them to go on a hunt to find objects around the room that are the same color.
Collage
Provide small pieces that are the same colors as in the booklet. Have your preschooler glue the small pieces to the matching colored animals.
