Easy Apple Art Activity with 2 Ingredient Puffy Paint

I love easy activities. They are usually the ones that our toddlers and preschoolers love most, too!

So when I put together this easy apple art activity, I just knew it would be another hit, just like our bubble-wrap printed apples and our apple trees.

The real fun is mixing the shaving cream and the paint together.

Then, take the free apple printable (provided below) and press it into the fluffy mixture, creating a print!

Supplies

• Shaving cream
• Washable red tempera paint
• Large craft sticks for mixing
• Trays
• Apple printable (scroll down towards end of post to find link)

Set Up

Squirt some shaving cream into a tray.

Add some red tempera paint and sticks for stirring.

Have enough copies made of the apple printable so that each child can make at least one.

I set up this activity after snack, so that the toddlers came over in small groups as they finished eating.

I invited them to mix the shaving cream and the paint using the sticks.

This is a wonderful way to work fine motor skills and build hand-eye coordination!

Eventually some of the children ditched the sticks and used their hands to mix the 2 ingredients.

Such a wonderful sensory experience!

I love using our Simplay3 activity table because it allows a small group of children to work together. Since there are no chairs (a deliberate choice, by the way), our toddlers could move around the table while mixing the ingredients.

This particular group loves to get their hands involved in anything we do.

In the past, however, I’ve always had at least one child who had an aversion to getting anything on the hands. In this case, keep those sticks handy for mixing, and keep a towel or damp cloth nearby.

Finally, I handed our toddlers the apple printable to press face down into the paint and shaving cream mixture.

They loved the feeling as they pat, pat, patted their hands on top of the paper.

The shaving cream and paint underneath the paper felt almost like a pillow.

Let the apple prints dry completely.

You can send home as is, or cut around the apples.

For this activity, I decided to glue the cut out apples onto a green sheet of paper, as I wanted to hang them in our classroom.

Reminds me of the apple prints we did last fall!
