Shapes Match and Clip Cards Printable Cards

These little cards are a fun way to work on shape recognition.

Plus, using the fingers to clip the clothespin onto the card adds fine motor to the activity, too!

Not only can they be used in the preschool classroom, but they’d also be fun at home during some quiet time.

You could even keep these cards in a bag along with clothespins for an on-the-go activity!

What you will need:

  • Shapes match and clip printable cards (at the end of this post)
  • One clothespin per card
  • Heavy paper or a laminator

Skills built:

  • Shape recognition
  • Fine motor

Directions:

Print the free cards on heavy paper or laminate. Because a clothespin will be clipped to the cards, they need to be sturdy.

If you do not have access to heavy paper or a laminator, scroll down to see how this activity can be adapted.

How to play:

Place cards and clothespins on a tray or placemat.

Invite your preschoolers to notice what shape the child on the card is holding and find the matching shape in the right hand column. They can then clip the clothespin to that shape.

For example, if the child is holding a circle, a clothespin will be attached on the right side of the card so that it’s touching the matching circle.

How to Adapt this Shape Activity

For younger children who might have a hard time squeezing a clothespin, invite them to instead take some sort of marker, such as a button, pom pom, or other small piece, and place on top of the matching shape.
