Preschool Memory Book

A tradition I started from the start of my teaching profession was to give each student a preschool memory book that highlighted their year in our classroom. These books are handed out the last week of class and my preschool families appreciate them. I often hear from alumni parents how they still look back on these books and cherish those memories. These are so easy to maintain throughout the year and a sweet gift to give from the teachers.

When we send home our preschool supply list during back-to-school, we add a 1″ binder. (These are the ones we love most.)

I add their names to the spines of the binders and store them on a shelf in our reading corner. They stay here all year long.

What we add to our memory books:

On parent night we provide notecards, pens, and stickers and ask the parents to write a note to their children that we can read to them on the first day of school.

They are hung in our gathering area during the school year, and then taken down and placed into these books at the end of the year.

We also add any artwork that is 8.5 x 11.

I also add photos that highlight their birthdays and classroom events.

Also, words to special songs we learned.

Adding the cover:

During the last few weeks of preschool, I print a sheet for the front of the binder and add their handprints.

On the last week, they will get to take these books home, along with their journals.

This is a bittersweet time of year for me. I look back on pictures and see the growth that has taken place. I marvel at how much we all learned! I cherish the friendships that have been made.

I like the idea of parents writing a note to them. What a treasure.

For the first month or so, I display these at the children’s level right beside their family photos. It was such a comfort for them to see something so personal. I’d read them the notes and they’d proudly point to their family pictures and show their new friends.

OH MY!!!! I love everything about this! I have been teaching the 3/4 year old classes for over 15 years and there is nothing I love more than finding something new and wonderful. I will definitely be adding this to our “to do” for next year. Thank you so much for sharing!

I also make a memory book for my student’s. I include their pictures in the book along with their art work so that it is all in one place. I really love the idea of a note from their families. Thanks for the great ideas.

How fun that you make them for your students, too! I do think it’s a nice treasure that I hope they cherish for many years. My daughter still loves to pull out her school work from when she was young. She’ll be a senior in high school this year. 🙂

I LOVE this idea! This is such a great way to preserve artwork and schoolwork in one place. When I taught preschool so many parents just threw away their children’s work because they didn’t know what to do with it. This is a fun activity for children and parents to do or even preschools. Thank you so much for sharing! 🙂
    Happy Teaching!
