Inside: Preschool show and tell is a very important and exciting part of our routine, plus it’s a great way to work on communication skills!
Preschool show and tell is a favorite with our 3 and 4 year olds.
When they find the empty sharing box in their cubbies, they get so excited!
They return the next school day with the box filled with 3 items that they chose to show their friends.
When we gather for circle time and ask who brought the sharing box, that child just beams.

We have one sharing person each week in the preschool 3’s class. On Monday I put a plastic container in the selected child’s cubby and he/she takes it home. Three objects are then placed in the container and returned on the next class day, Wednesday.
What They Bring
We’ve had all sorts of items shared: small books, postcards, photos, jewelry, stuffed animals, toys….and if they are too large to fit in the box, that is okay. They can still come to school. (Our largest item so far has been an electric guitar owned by the preschooler’s father.)
How They Share
During circle time, the sharing person opens the box and displays the chosen objects on the carpet.
One Touch
One of the items is chosen and the sharing person walks around the circle, stopping in front of each preschooler who can then give it “one touch”.
During this time, I ask questions to the sharing person about the item. This is an easy way to work on communication skills and help young children gain confidence.
Eventually I will encourage the other children to ask questions, too.
Once each child gets one touch, the items go into the sharing person’s cubby to take home.
And then we move on to another student the following week.
It really is as simple as that!
