Colorful Star Suncatcher {with Printable Template}
We love making sun catchers with our toddlers and preschoolers. You might recall these favorites:
Each one is easy and fun and creates a colorful window display.
Since we prefer to decorate our classroom with items the children have made, we love including our windows. And sun catchers are a great art activity just for that!
What you will need:
- Assorted tissue paper squares
- Contact (sticky) paper
- Yellow construction paper
- Star printable template (scroll down to find the link to download)
Preparing this star craft:
After printing the star template, attach to the front of a sheet of yellow construction paper (I staple a couple of the corners), and then cut around black line, creating a star.
(If doing multiple stars, trace around the printable that has already been cut out. You can see some of my pencil marks in the photo below.)
Next, cut a piece of Contact paper so that it’s slightly larger than the star cut out.
Press it on one side of the paper so that the entire star is sticky on the opposite side.
Putting together this star suncatcher:
Place the star paper sticky side up on a flat surface and provide colored tissue paper squares.
Invite your child to press the squares inside the star where it is sticky.
After the tissue paper squares have been added to the star, cover the exposed area with another sheet of Contact paper so that there are no sticky parts.
Then trim around the star leaving a bit of a yellow edge.
Punch a hole in the top of the star and hang in the window for some instant color!
We added one of our stars above our gingerbread banner, too!
