Inside: Looking for kid made ornaments? This amazing collection has over 50 fun ideas. Plus, I’ve included a free printable activity for you to do today!

I love homemade ornaments. Especially when they are kid made ornaments. So when I was asked to contribute to a collection of 50  plus ornaments made by kids, I was all for it.

We make quite a few ornaments each December in our preschool classroom, but our families have told us they most cherish those that include a picture of their children.

I really get that from a parent’s perspective, as those are the ornaments I cannot wait to put on our tree each year.

Creating keepsake ornaments for kids really doesn’t need to be complicated. We find simple frame ornaments and the children add their touches, and we insert their photos.

To see the 50+ kid made ornaments, scroll down towards the bottom of the page.

👉 I’ve also included a free printable activity you can do with your kids today! You can find that link towards the bottom of this post.

Our contribution to this collection were simple framed ornaments.

I have used many different types of frames over the years for our keepsake ornaments, and these round wooden frames are my favorite.
I order them at the beginning of the school year, when we do the bulk of our ordering.

I like to have everything set out on the table before the children arrive.

I make name labels for each child on Scotch Tape. This way they are ready to place on the keepsake ornaments as soon as each child has finished his.

Step one was dripping liquid watercolors onto the frames with pipettes.

We let them dry on trays before proceeding with step 2.

Once the frames were dry, I filled portion cups with shiny objects that they could glue on their frames.
I love using portion cups so that I can have these ready to go as the children sit down at the table. I fill one cup for each child.

I also provided letter tiles that we collected somewhere, but I honestly do not know where. Perhaps they were donated. All I know is that I love them!

Some of the children wanted to add all the letters of their names, even if they were not exactly in order. These add another personal touch to the keepsake ornaments.

We will wrap these up in our JOY bags, along with some other goodies,  as gifts to our parents.

This is a great idea! Would you mind if we use it at one of our drop in childcare facilities in wilmington or cary north carolina?
