Preschool Art with Tea Bags

Preschool art with tea bags is the coolest fine motor activity! I mean, really, who would have thought to paint with them? Not me. And I don’t take credit for inventing this. If you google it, you will find many people who have tried it.

I wanted to be in on the fun, too!

And so, I collected different types of tea bags so we could experiment how rich the color could be.

I’m sure you’ve tried this before, right? Well, if not, you must.

What you will need for this activity:

- Tea bags (I suggest experimenting with a few different types so the children can compare.)
- Paper

Putting this activity together:

Unwrap the paper from the tea bags. Fill shallow containers with water and set the tea bags in it to absorb the water.

Inviting the children to this activity:

I placed sheets of white paper on the table. As the preschoolers walked over to the table, they seemed to know what to do. They picked up the tea bags by their strings and started plopping them onto the paper.

The swung the bags back and forth.

They left trails on the paper.

They giggled. This is what I love about process art. They love DOING IT. It’s not about the finished product.

You notice the rich berry color verses the pale brown. This is where we had fun with the different types of tea.

Oh, and have I mentioned the aroma? Mmmm….. it was relaxing!
