Inside: If you are looking for a simple Easter art activity, try this tape resist cardboard egg craft!

Cardboard to the rescue again!

Those of you who have followed me for awhile know how often we use cardboard for activities, especially at the art table.

Remember these?

  • Pom Pom Gingerbread Men
  • Foil Fish Craft
  • Nature Squirrels
  • Cardboard Fall Trees

I was looking for an extra activity we could do during our Easter theme and decided to bring out the cardboard again, this time using a tape-resist approach.

Cut out the eggs, apply the tape, paint, and remove the tape.

In between, there’s lots of fun fine motor going on!

Tape Resist Cardboard Egg Craft

To be fair, this isn’t the first cardboard egg craft we have done, nor will it be our last.

Last year we created cardboard collage eggs that were also a lot of fun!

Supplies

  • Cardboard cut into egg shapes
  • Masking tape (painters tape works best, but we used colored masking tape)
  • Tempera paint in assorted colors
  • Paint brushes

Preparation

Cut cardboard into egg shapes.

You can use the free template at the bottom of this page for convenience.

Set Up

I like to use trays at the art table for each student to work on.

On each tray place a prepared cardboard egg and a paint brush.

Place the tempera paint containers within reach on the table.

The Activity

Explain to the children that they will be painting Easter eggs different colors.

It is their choice what colors they want to use and where on the egg.

Some might use a variety, some might use one color.

Again, it’s their art so it’s their choice.

When dry (or damp), pull off the tape.

And yes, the cardboard might rip a bit. No worries.

And that’s it!

You could punch a hole in the top and hang.
