Inside: Add some simple counting with these printable pinecone count and clip cards. A fun way to work on preschool math skills!

We love adding pinecones to our preschool fall theme.

After going on nature walks, we explore the pinecones in a variety of ways in our various learning centers.

This year I decided to create some pinecone count and clip cards to our manipulatives table for some number recognition, while also working simple counting skills with numbers 1 – 10.

These little cards are a fun way to add counting to your fall theme.

Not only can they be used in the preschool classroom, but they’d also be fun at home during some quiet time.

You could even keep these cards in a bag along with clothespins for an on-the-go activity!

What you will need:

  • Pinecone count and clip printable cards (scroll down to find link to free download)
  • One clothespin per card

Skills built:

  • Number recognition
  • Counting
  • 1:1 correspondence
  • Fine motor

Directions:

For best results copy the activity onto heavy paper (card stock) or laminate. This gives it more durability, especially if you are using it in a classroom setting.

Cut the cards apart and provide clothespins.

How to play:

Place cards and clothespins on a tray or placemat.

Invite your preschoolers to count the pinecones on each card and clip the clothespin to the correct number.
