Inside: This felt Christmas tree ornament is super easy to make, and it can be tailored to fit the ages of your children. Would be fun for a school or party craft!
Those of you who’ve been following my blog awhile know how I try to make our activities as open-ended as possible.
I prefer process art over crafts, but there are times, such as holidays, when we do get a little crafty.
However, even then we encourage our preschoolers to add their own touches. No two look alike.
So when my co-teacher put together this fun felt Christmas tree ornament, I was elated!
This homemade Christmas tree ornament only requires a few materials, is easy to set up, and adds some festive color.
Easy Colorful Felt Christmas Tree Ornament
What you will need:
- Black card stock paper
- Assorted colors of felt
- Tacky glue
- Assorted buttons
- Shiny gems
Preparation:
Cut a tree shape from the black card stock paper. Then cut the felt a bit smaller than the card stock, so that the card stock frames the tree.
The process:
Place the card stock trees, felt trees, buttons, gems and glue on the table. Have the children glue the felt tree on top of the black card stock.
Squeeze the glue onto the felt where the buttons and gems will go.
Or, squeeze the glue onto the buttons and then place them on top of the felt.
Place one of the shiny gems at the top of the tree.
If your children are like ours, they might want to use lots of buttons.
Once dry, use a hole punch at the top of the tree and tie a loop with ribbon so it can hang from the tree.
Bright and festive Christmas felt trees!
How to adapt this colorful felt Christmas tree ornament for younger children:
If you are concerned about using small buttons, replace them with large colorful pom poms. Young children love the feeling of them, and they have the same cheerful appearance as the buttons!
How to adapt this ornament for older children:
Draw the outline of the tree on the felt and let them cut it out. They can even choose what they want to add to their tree in addition to the buttons.
