Inside: This winter clothing color matching activity is a fun way for toddlers and preschoolers to work on color recognition. It’s perfect during classroom centers time or at the kitchen table!
We love simple color recognition activities in our toddler and preschool classroom.
Whether it’s at our activity table, during small groups, or even as a whole group during circle time, there are so many playful ways to work on color recognition skills.
I decided to create a fun and simple activity that involved matching different types of winter clothing by color.
This is a nice companion with any winter theme!
Winter Clothing Color Matching Activity
During our winter theme we love to add cold weather clothing to our dramatic play center.
We will place a variety of gloves, hats and scarves on our dress up cart.
Our toddlers and preschoolers love wearing these clothing items while involved in our hot cocoa shop.
Because they had so much fun with the winter wear, I decided to create these winter clothing color matching cards at our activity table.
Supplies Needed:

- Scissors
Preparing this Activity:
Make copies of the winter clothing color matching printable.
If this activity will be done with multiple children (small groups or circle time), make sure to have enough copies so each child gets some of the printable cards.
I suggest copying on heavy (card stock) paper or laminate so that the cards are more durable.
How to Play
Match the Accessories with the Coveralls:
Keep the page with the coveralls intact (not cutting them apart), but cut apart the other pages (coat, hats, gloves and boots).
Invite your children to place the hats, gloves, boots and jackets on the matching overalls.
Simple for Toddlers
For younger children, match the identical pieces of clothing and colors.
Make two copies of the same sheet, keeping one whole and cutting apart the other.
Invite your toddler to place the matching piece/color.
