Valentine's Day Counting Printable for Circle Time

Valentine’s Day Counting Printable

I love using circle time to build skills, especially when props are involved.

You might recall my recent Five Little Snowmen circle time activity.

My 2 and young 3 year olds loved seeing the numbered snowmen displayed on the cookie sheet.

I pointed to each snowman as we called out the numbers on their hats.

Activities using props draw the children in, getting them excited to participate!

Assembling the Numbered Hearts

What you will need:

  • Laminator (optional)
  • Scotch tape
  • Numbered hearts (scroll down to find the link)

I suggest either printing these on heavy paper or laminating them for extra durability.

Preparation:

Cut out the hearts.

Then decide how you will be displaying them.

Here are some ideas:

Flannel Board: Place velcro pieces on the backs of each heart and attach to the flannel board (this one is my favorite).

Cookie Sheet:  I love using cookie sheets during circle time. For this type of activity, I will be using a small cookie sheet that I spray painted white. Simply attach a self-adhesive magnetic dot on the back of each heart and attach!

Stick Puppets: This is another favorite of mine, especially if you don’t have a flannel board or a magnetic board. After copying the hearts onto heavy paper and/or laminating, tape them to popsicle sticks. Easy to hold! (You can see how I created stick puppets with our snowflake printable in this post.)

Valentine’s Day Counting Activity

Now that you have your numbered hearts ready to go, it’s time to grab your music and gather your children at circle time.

You can find these songs on Amazon:

Five Valentines to Give Away (The Kiboomers)

Five Little Hearts (The Kiboomers)

You can also use these props before reading favorite Valentine’s Day books!

Invite your children to count the number of hearts you have displayed before reading the book.

Teaching virtually?

I’ve found that props are even more important when teaching through a screen.

You can see how I use them in my online video snippets which are on my virtual teaching resource page.

I send my props home in a take-home packet that each child gets every two weeks.
