Thanksgiving Art with Preschoolers

Each week during Thanksgiving, our preschool has a Thanksgiving program and feast. This is such a fun way to get all our families together! Our preschool resides in a church, so we use their Fellowship Hall for our special events. For our feast, we decorated the walls and tables with Thanksgiving art made with our preschoolers. While the wall art might change from year to year, we’ve always made our traditional table runners made from cookie cutters. When the feast is over, I take a few to decorate my own tables for our family Thanksgiving dinner. I love decorations made by kids!

What you will need for this Thanksgiving art:

  • Fall cookie cutters
  • Tempera paint: brown, orange, and yellow
  • Roll of white paper

Creating the table runners:

One large tray with a few different colors of paint and some autumn cookie cutters. I like to put the 3 colors on one tray because I love how they eventually start mixing.

I love projects like this because the children seem to work together more. I decided to remove the chairs so it was easier to walk around and stamp the different areas of the paper.

But we had 6 runners we had to do. And by runner number 5, the children were getting a bit silly. And somehow we went from the above picture to this:

 Just keeping it real here!

We used it anyways. This is not about perfection. This is about preschoolers having fun with art materials.
