Shamrock Alphabet Activity {Free Printable}

Inside: Looking for a fun way to work on alphabet skills during St. Patrick’s Day? This Shamrock alphabet activity includes free printable cards that challenge preschoolers to match the uppercase letter to the lowercase letter. 

There are so many fun ways to work on letter identification throughout the year, and today I’m sharing an alphabet matching activity that is perfect during the month of March.

All you need is the free printable shamrock cards and your preschoolers will be ready for some upper and lower case matching.

Shamrock Alphabet Matching Activity

This shamrock alphabet matching activity can be adapted depending on the level your children are at.

Younger Preschoolers

For children who are just beginning to recognize their letters, you will want to make 2 copies of the shamrock alphabet matching cards.

With the first set, cut on the outer dotted lines (not the center line) so that you have individual cards that show both the upper and lower case letter.

With the second set, do the same thing and also cut the dotted center line. (So that the upper and lower case are separate cards.)

Place the whole cards on the table and the separated cards in a container.

Invite your preschoolers to place the matching separated cards on top of the whole cards. (See photo below.)

Note: You might only want to put a few letters out at a time so that it is not overwhelming.

Older Preschoolers

For those that can already recognize upper and lowercase letters, only make a copy of 1 set.

Cut on all of the dotted lines so that you have 2 cards for each letter, one being upper case and the other lower.

Place the cards in a container and invite your preschoolers to match them.

Note: When just starting this activity, don’t put the entire set out. Pick and choose which letters to use at one time.
