Preschool Puffy Paint and Basters

I’m always looking for ways to work those fine motor muscles, and since last week was cooking camp, turkey basters seemed appropriate. These are junior-sized basters that I found at Lakeshore.

We whisked up some flour and liquid watercolors. I purposely left the clumps of flour in there for a surprise in texture as they sucked up and released the liquid.

The texture allowed for the liquid to release at different rates. It was always a surprise and how quickly or slowly the paint would come out of the basters.

I knew this wasn’t going to be a saved piece of art. It was all process. So we used a recycled piece of black poster board that eventually started warping, trying to absorb all the liquid.

It was a great activity to do outdoors because, yes, eventually it dripped off the ends of the board, down onto the ground. {Which made it even more fun for these preschoolers!}

Someone was at that table the entire time we were out there, until there was no more liquid to be suction out of the containers. Pure fun!
