Gingerbread Shapes Activity

Skills: Shapes, Colors

  • Cut apart the cards and match the shapes to those on the gingerbread men!
  • While matching the shapes, your children can also identify their colors.

Christmas Tree Playdough Mats

Skills: Number Recognition, Counting, Fine Motor

  • Laminate each mat and use at your playdough center during the Christmas theme.
  • Children can roll playdough balls and place on the black circles and decorate the trees!

Additional Ideas: These can also be used with pom poms, buttons, or other small markers.

Gingerbread Count and Clip Cards

Skills: Number Recognition, Counting, Fine Motor

  • Cut apart each of the cards.
  • Count the gingerbread men on each card and identify the number.
  • Clip a clothespin to the correct number.

Additional Ideas: Can also mark each number using a small object, or circle it with a writing tool.

Snowman Hat Color Matching

Skills: Color Recognition

  • Cut apart the cards and match the hats to the snowmen that have accessories with the same colors.

Count the Ornaments on the Tree

Skills: Number Recognition, Counting

  • Work on numbers 1-10 by cutting apart the cards and putting them in numerical order.
  • Then, count the ornaments on each card.

Additional Ideas: Can use small markers, such as buttons or pom poms, to place on top of each ornament.

Build color skills by using matching colors when selecting pom poms or buttons!

Gingerbread Pattern Cards

Skills: Math, Color Recognition

  • Cut apart the individual cards and place correct card on the question mark to complete each pattern.

Gingerbread Man Props

Skills: Number Recognition, Counting

Circle Time

  • Use the plain gingerbread man as a prop while reading gingerbread books and singing gingerbread songs. Simply make enough copies for each child on heavy paper or laminate. Tape to a popsicle stick to be used as a stick puppet.
  • Use the numbered gingerbread men for gingerbread books and songs that include counting. Print on heavy paper and attach velcro on the back so they can be displayed on a flannel board.

Table Activity

  • Place the numbered gingerbread men on a tray along with small markers such as buttons or pom poms.
  • Identify the number on each gingerbread man and place that number of pieces on top of them.

Gingerbread Color Recognition Activity

Skills: Color Recognition

Circle Time

  • Make one set of the gingerbread man printable that will be placed on the floor. Then, make enough additional sets so that each child has at least one of the colored gingerbread men.
  • As you call on each child, have them walk up to the gingerbread men that are on the floor and place their gingerbread man on top of the matching colored one. When finished, count how many of each color there are. If there are different amounts, which color has the most? Which one has the least?

Table Activity

  • Place gingerbread men on a tray along with matching colored small pieces, such as pom poms or buttons.
  • Invite your children to place the small pieces on top of the matching colored gingerbread men.

Large Motor

Go on a gingerbread man color hunt!

  • Hide the gingerbread men and invite your children to find them.
  • As each one is found, ask the children to identify its color.
