Painting with Bubble Wrap

Painting with bubble wrap is a favorite with our toddlers and preschoolers. We’ve used it with our hands, with brushes, and with rollers. The texture is appealing to children! Any time we get a donation of bubble wrap, we make sure to use it at the art table. In this activity, we decided to make rainbow prints.

Painting with Bubble Wrap

What you will need:

  • Tempera paint in the colors of the rainbow
  • Paint brushes
  • Bubble wrap
  • Paper

The Process:

Pour the paint into trays and invite the children to paint directly on the bubble wrap.

If the children love the feeling of paint, they will most likely put the brush down and use their hands instead.
And instead of making prints, they might just want to rub the paint directly on the paper. This process art has no rules!
Once the bubble wrap is covered in paint, it’s time to make the prints.
Press a piece of paper on top of the painted bubble wrap and pull it off.
You now have a bubble rainbow print!

Make sure to give them plenty of paper, as they’ll most likely want to do it a few times!

Hello! I am going to be teaching a 2 year old preschool class at a small church preschool this august! The 2010-2011 school year will be my first teaching preschool! I am SO excited, and am trying to research/find ideas for my classroom and our school year. I’ve loved reading your blog, and i’ve definitely gotten a better idea of how a 2 year old classroom runs. I’d love for you to email me with suggestions/advice for my first year, and for classroom set up! Also, I have started thinking about what my parent handbook and parent night literature should contain. Do you think you could share what all your parents receive/what the parent letter contains for the beginning of the year?

To the anonymous reader, this blog is great! Has given me a lot of inspiration!

To Cheryl, we did something similar to this last week. I hot glued bubble wrap around a water bottle (water in for weight) and glued the top shut. Makes a great bubble-print roller.

My littlies are 8 and 9 now but I’ve been saving bubble wrap as I decluttered over the summer vacation. I know we’ll have fun with it and some paint!
    Thanks for the reminder!
