Inside: Five Little Snowmen Winter Circle Time Activity – Free Printable!
I just love finding songs that get our circle times active.
You know when you find that song that lights the children up and gets them participating with you?
While putting together my January playlist, I found a fun song called Five Little Snowmen by The Kiboomers.
I just knew it would be perfect for our snowman theme, plus I could work on simple counting skills, too.
I decided to take it one step further by creating numbered snowman props that I could use as visuals while singing the song.
Such a great addition to our winter circle time!

Five Little Snowmen Winter Circle Time Activity
If you’ve been following me on Teaching 2 and 3 Year Olds for any length of time, you know how I struggled with circle time for years.
I’d open my book or turn on a song and just could not grab their attention.
I was frustrated.
And I know so many of you have been in this same place – you might even be there now – because I get emails all the time asking how to make circle time go more smoothly.
I won’t go into lengthy detail here, but will give you my top resources if you’d like to know my secrets:

If you teach toddlers, I have additional tips here:

In each of the above resources I mention one thing over and over again:
Use Props
I can’t remember exactly how far along in my teaching career I finally figured this out, but what I DO recall is that once I did, things got a whole lot easier.
Not perfect.
Circle time will always have it’s hiccups (and I address those in the above resources).
But props grab the children’s attention, pulling them in, keeping them engaged.
So that brings us to today’s post.
When I found the song Five Little Snowmen, I knew I could make it that much better if I had some props.
So I created these cute numbered snowmen that have the same details that are mentioned in the song.
Assembling the Five Little Snowmen Printable Circle Time Props
What you will need:
- Laminator (optional)
- Scotch tape
- Printable snowman props (scroll down to find the link)
I suggest either printing these on heavy paper or laminating them for extra durability.
Make enough copies so that you have one mittens for each student and yourself.
Preparation:
Cut out the snowmen.
Then decide how you will be displaying them.
Here are some ideas:
Flannel Board: Place velcro pieces on the backs of each snowman and attach to the flannel board (this is my favorite brand).
Cookie Sheet: I love using cookie sheets during circle time. For this type of activity, I will be using a small cookie sheet that I spray painted white. Simply attach a self-adhesive magnetic dot on the back of each snowman and attach!
You can place the cookie sheet in a book holder, or you can hold it.
Stick Puppets: This is another favorite of mine, especially if you don’t have a flannel board or a magnetic board. After copying the snowmen onto heavy paper and/or laminating, tape them to popsicle sticks. Easy to hold! (You can see how I created stick puppets with our snowflake printable in this post.)

Now that you have your numbered snowmen ready to go, it’s time to grab your music and gather your children at circle time.
You can find the song on Amazon:

I also have it in my January playlist, if you are using Spotify:

Edited on 12/2022: Same Number Of Buttons As On Hat
I’ve been asked if I can also provide this activity so that the number of buttons reflect the number on the hat. For that version, you will want this download: 5 LITTLE SNOWMAN REVISED PRINTABLE
