After asking parents to recycle all of their plastic milk jug caps, I realized this would make a great fine motor activity at the light table. We love our light table and use it daily. It’s tucked into our reading and writing area. We vary what we put on it each week, often adding some fine motor to the activity. Because teachers are always on a budget, we love to use recycled materials whenever we can, and our preschool families are great at donating them.

Let’s start with the light table. I hear so many people say they would love one, but don’t have the money to purchase one. We were able to purchase ours through fundraising money. But if you do not have that option, you can make one yourself! Danya shares how she made her own here.

Now, for the milk caps. I simply asked our preschool families to save and bring them to our preschool.

On this particular day, I placed various-sized bottles at the table along with some tongs and plastic bug catchers, as well as some trays.

They used the tongs to transfer the caps into the bottles. The challenge was realizing some caps did not fit in some bottles.
