When thinking about fall and Halloween, one of the main visuals that comes to mind is bats.

They are a prominent nature symbol of the season.

While preschoolers most likely can identify bats, there are so many fascinating facts about bats that they probably do not know yet.

Did you know that they use echolocation to find nearby objects, and that they have a keen sense of smell to identify their young?

20 Activities for Learning About Bats

  1. Hanging Bat Craft – Add some fall decor to your window with these fun bat suncatchers.
  2. How a Bat Grows – This free printable book is very informative for preschoolers to learn about the lives of bats. (Surviving a Teacher’s Salary)
  3. Black Bat Sensory Bin – Dye your own rice and bowtie pasta for this adorable bat sensory bin. (Modern Preschool)
  4. Build a Bat Cave – Use a bat template to have preschoolers color their own bats and hang them from the ceiling to show how bats hang together in their caves. (Digital Divide & Conquer)
  5. Sleeping Bat Template – For the previous activity, this is a great free printable for preschoolers to color. (Kidzone)
  6. Yarn Bat – For a fine motor activity, toddlers will glue pieces of black yarn onto the body of the bat. (The Chirping Moms)
